Not all outdoor survival kits are the same and they shouldn’t be, because a kit you should be specific to your particular needs. It depends on where your outdoor adventure is taking place. All items should be packed in lightweight waterproof bags or containers that fit easily into your backpack. They should also be easily accessible should the need arise. Ideally, a backpack that has handy pockets on the outside are excellent for storing items that you could need in an emergency. Some items should be staples of all outdoor survival kits. These items include a pot for cooking, fuel for cooking, waterproof matches, emergency signaling kit, first aid kit and a small durable flashlight. The pot you take along for cooking should be a lightweight tin or aluminum pot. A cast iron pot or pan would not be a sensible choice. Carry your waterproof matches in an airtight waterproof container as a precaution; running out of matches is never fun. When it comes to your flashlight, a small durable one is best. Use long lasting batteries and check them before your trip. An excellent tip is to turn the batteries around in the flashlight so that if it accidentally gets switched to the on position, you will not drain the batteries. All outdoor survival kits should contain a flashlight in case you are stranded in the dark. Fumbling around in the dark can cause injury. Wearing waterproof breathable clothing is a good idea as well.

Whether you are stuck in an accident, if there is a fire accident, if an earthquake hit your place or any other incident which wounded you – these situations can be easily handled by you if you carry survival kits which provide you basic first aid. These kits contain all the first aid elements like bandage, cleaning spirit, cotton, anti biotic cream, lip balm and tissue paper. In case of fire accidents or natural vehicle accidents, these health survival kits can help you a lot. Before the victims are shifted to a hospital, the basic treatment can be provided by them. Instead of buying a medical survival kit, you can make one at home. Buy suture kit, razor, tweezers, sterile pads, gauge, bandage, cleaning spirit, cotton, insect repellant cream, anti biotic cream, salt, soap and tissue paper. Hydrogen peroxide and cleaning spirit help in cleaning the wound and then bandaging it tightly. In case you are suffering with a medical problem, then include all your prescribed medicines in the medical survival kit. They will be helpful to you in an emergency. For short sighted people the survival kit should have an extra pair of eyeglasses or contacts. Any material in the kit that may be damaged by water or spoiled should be wrapped or sealed in plastic. But always remember to keep these health survival kits in your home or in the car. They will help a lot.
